Louisburg, NC - The Founder and President of Winslow Homes, Matthew Winslow, filed today for the open senate seat in District 18, which covers Franklin and Wake Counties. Winslow, a community and business leader, will take his real-world experiences to the legislature where he will focus on education, transportation, and the economy. The seat is currently held by retiring Senator Johnny Alexander.

“The people of Franklin and Wake County need to have their voices heard. I believe my unique experiences will allow me to bridge the urban-rural divide so that we can address the critically important issues of education, transportation, and economic development.  I’m focused on winning for voters across the district – winning the fight for education for students and families, winning the fight for jobs in the area, and winning the battle against the traffic with safer roads and reduced traffic, ” Winslow said.

“I am a builder and a problem solver. When Youngsville needed help revitalizing their downtown, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work, repurposing and remodeling several commercial buildings.

When my company was awarded Business of the Year by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, it was an award for the community and an award for cooperation and vision.

I have always strived to give back, through family, church, Wake County Habitat for Humanity, Homes for Hope, the Education Foundation and now through public service. I believe we can improve the quality of life for all residents of District 18 by working together.”

As a first-generation college student, Matthew utilized student loans, several jobs, and grants to pay his way through college. He graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Urban and Regional Planning and Development. Later, he used his background as a county planning and inspections director to start a career in home building and development.

As a small business owner, he champions present and future entrepreneurs by serving on the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Board, and chairing The Committee of 100 and the Economic Development Committee in order to stimulate growth and provide opportunities for businesses to flourish.

While Matthew holds traditional conservative values such as supporting the second amendment and fostering a culture of life,  his campaign is focused on the commonsense issues of Senate District 18, including transportation, education, attacking the opioid epidemic, support for our farmers, and most importantly, getting results to improve the quality of life for the hard-working families in the district.

Matthew lives on a farm in Franklin County with his wife, Marquita, their kids, Delaney and Hudson, and two super spoiled rescues that are more like family than pets.
